. Thomas A. Magliocca
At the age of 19, Tom was drafted into service with the US Army. His service started as
PFC E-3 in October of 1966 and he was discharged as Sgt. E-5 in October of 1968.
Tom was assigned to Fort Gordon, Georgia for basic training and was transferred to Fort
Jackson, SC for Advanced Infantry Training (AIT). After a short 30-day leave at home, Tom
flew to Vietnam on April 17, 1967.
Assigned to the 1st Infantry Division, Troop C, 4th Armored Cavalry, Tom's base camp in
Vietnam was located in Phu Loi. Tom saw his base camp for a total of nine days while in
Vietnam. The rest of his tour he spent in the jungles of Vietnam.
Tom served as a member of "The Big Red One" and recounts many battles in Vietnam
under the leadership of his Platoon Sgt., Daniel Harper. To this day, Tom believes that if it
wasn't for his Platoon Sgt., he wouldn't be here today writing this bio. Sgt. Harper is
currently up for the Medal of Honor for heroism and his never ending dedication to the
safety of his men during battles in Vietnam.
Tom returned home from Vietnam in April of 1968, spending his last few months at Fort
Hood, Texas. He was honorably discharged on October 25, 1968.
Tom was a founding member of Chapter 421. In those early days, Tom assisted with the
start up of the Chapter and served as Chairman of the POW Committee.
Tom is now retired and living with his wife Mary Lou in Bonita Springs, Florida. He enjoys
riding his Harley Road King motorcycle, is currently a member of the Combat Infantry
Association and meets regularly at the Naples VA with fellow Vietnam Vets living in SWFL.
