Staten Island OutLOUD
kicks off our series on The Things They Carried and
veterans issues for The Big Read with “Thank A Vet”, a
community acknowledgement of their sacrifice and service.
Saturday, November 3, 1:00-3:00pm at the Richmondtown Branch
Library, 200 Clarke Ave, SINY 10306. Free and open to the
public. Free parking in the library lot and on the street.
We’ll feature readings and dialogues on the Vietnam
experience, as depicted in The Things They Carried,
but we’ll also discuss the experiences of veterans in Iraq,
Afghanistan and at many other important points in our
history. Special guests will include students of St.
Adalbert’s school, who’ll share some of the oral histories
they’ve developed with Staten Island veterans of many
different eras. And our most honored guests will be
veterans themselves. Please join us for our community
gathering, talk with friends, meet new neighbors, and accept
our thanks for your service.More
details to come; our program planning is currently in
progress.
